About
Julian Stetter is a sound artist, composer and mixing engineer working across electronic music, performance, installation and contemporary theatre. His practice moves between physical sound, emotional fragmentation and spatial composition, shaped as much by club culture as by experimental and interdisciplinary art contexts. He is fascinated by subcultural genres and their corresponding cultures.
Following his beginnings with the pop duo VIMES, Stetter increasingly shifted towards open and exploratory forms. He has toured internationally across Europe, North and South America and Asia, including appearances at SXSW (Austin, Texas), Echo Music Festival (Shanghai, China), Bahidorá Festival (Estacas, Mexico), The Great Escape Festival (Brighton, England), Eurosonic Noorderslag (Groningen, Netherlands), iBoat (Bordeaux, France), Reeperbahn Festival (Hamburg, Germany) and Nation of Gondwana (Grünefeld, Germany).
Alongside releases and live performances, Stetter works across film, performance and audiovisual installations. His work has been presented at Neue Nationalgalerie, Gropius Bau, Kolumba, Museum Folkwang and Slamdance Film Festival. He composes music for theatre at Burgtheater Wien, Schauspiel Köln, Theater Basel and Ruhrfestspiele, among others.
Stetter co-runs *akʷā, a platform for experimental music and visual arts. He studied music production and musicology in Cologne and previously taught Sound Studies at the University of Bonn.
Apart from all that, Julian Stetter is a very good hangout!
