About

Julian Stetter is a sound artist, composer and mixing engineer fascinated by subcultural genres and their corresponding cultures. He works across electronic music, film, performance, installation and theatre. His practice moves between physical sound, emotional fragmentation and spatial composition, shaped as much by club culture as by experimental and interdisciplinary contexts.

His work has been presented at Neue Nationalgalerie, Gropius Bau, Kolumba, Museum Folkwang and Slamdance Film Festival. He composes music for theatre at Burgtheater Wien, Schauspiel Köln, Theater Basel and Ruhrfestspiele, among others.

Alongside his own artistic work, Stetter collaborates as a mixing engineer with artists across electronic, pop and experimental music. Earlier in his career, Stetter toured throughout Europe, North and South America and Asia as a DJ and with the pop duo VIMES, including appearances at SXSW (Austin, Texas), Echo Music Festival (Shanghai, China), Bahidorá Festival (Estacas, Mexico) and Eurosonic Noorderslag (Groningen, Netherlands).

Stetter co-runs *akʷā, a platform for experimental music and visual arts. He studied music production and musicology in Cologne and taught Sound Studies at the University of Bonn.
